I have managed both global teams of linguists and large websites and blogs – different types of assignments with different requirements. A great way to see if you have what it takes, is to expose yourself to a classroom full of 14-year old gum-chewing students wondering why on earth they should listen to you. (They eventually did.)

How to address a global group – intercultural communication In global projects, people can spend years working together through online platforms without ever meeting. When you can´t grab a coffee with your colleague, other forms of communication become more important. We all have the need to belong. Having experienced these underlying mechanisms at first hand, I have a genuine understanding of what it takes to make a group comfortable on conference calls and video conferences.
Group dynamics vs. individual needs – interpersonal communication As an independent contractor, you are never "part of the team". Moving in and out of teams truly develops your social skills. In my case, it also provided me with an eagle´s view. While observing and deciphering the dynamics of a group, I see every individual – a skill that can be very valuable. When people feel seen (and heard), they are happier, more motivated and loyal, while inspiring others. This is natural retention at its finest.
We are what we repeatedly do.Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit. - Aristotle -
